Gynecomastia is such a condition that is commonly associated with the enlargement of the glandular breast tissues in men. Gynecomastia usually results from a hormonal imbalance in the body when the male hormone testosterone decreases in the body in comparison to estrogen or the female hormone. However, there may also be other causes of Gynecomastia like a side effect of certain medicines, antibiotics. Enlargement of the male breast may also be the reason for Hyperthyroidism, chronic kidney failure, obesity, etc.

A true gynecomastia typically results from the growth of glandular breast tissues which is present in very small quantities.
The most initial symptom of Gynecomastia is the enlargement of the male breasts which is due to the presence of excess glandular tissues. It typically makes the nipple rubbery and firm. This condition may affect both or only one breast. Often men may also experience some tenderness, pain, and sensitivity on their breast.
Treatment for Gynecomastia:
This enlarged male breast condition may occur in adolescent boys and in major cases, the symptoms disappear with the end of the adolescence. But the problem arises when the symptoms do not disappear even after few years after adolescence. Now, Gynecomastia definitely does not give rise to any major physical symptoms but it is responsible for giving rise to embarrassment among people. So the first thing that men can do is stop taking any medication and treatment that is responsible for the enlargement of male breasts.
There are also some medical treatments available that can specifically address the problem. But unfortunately the effectiveness of such drugs is limited and there are no such specific drugs that have been approved by FDA. However, for some people medications may also be effective in the early stages. Often, men may choose to undergo certain exercise that can help to tighten the chest muscle.
Exercises like push-ups, jogging, dumbbell press, seated row, etc. are found to helpful to tighten the chest muscles and also to get rid of the severe enlarged breast condition. In major cases getting rid of gynecomastia with the only exercise, may not work. They may need to undergo surgery which is the only possible permanent remedy for this condition. Gynecomastia surgery or reduction mammoplasty is most useful in fetching permanent results.
Gynecomastia Surgery in Navi Mumbai:
The goal of gynecomastia surgery is to reduce the breast size in men who desire to get rid of the condition. The reduction method includes cutting out excess glandular tissues or using a combination of both. Before undergoing the procedure, the patients are usually administered with general anesthesia for the overall comfort during the surgical procedures. Now, for men where Gynecomastia is primarily due to the presence of excess fatty tissues, liposuction alone may be enough. The procedure involves using a cannula which is a thin hollow tube through several small incisions. The cannula is then moved back and forth to loosen the excess fatty tissues. Then the liquefied fatty tissues are removed from the body through a vacuum suction. There are various liposuction techniques out of which the surgeon usually chooses the appropriate one for the patients.

Now men who have an enlarged breast condition due to the effect of excision techniques are usually recommended to undergo a tissue excision procedure. In this procedure, the glandular breast tissue or excess skin are removed to reduce the enlarged breast condition. The excision procedure may also be necessary if the areola is reduced or if the nipple is repositioned to a more natural male contour. However, the incision patterns are also different depending on individual customised requirements and surgical preferences. Some gynecomastia may also be treated with both liposuction and tissue excision procedure.
The recovery after undergoing a gynecomastia procedure typically depends on how severe the condition was. Typically on average men are able to return to normal to light activities within a week or so. However, there may be some restriction on performing vigorous exercises for first three weeks. The surgeon provides with some post-op instructions and a compression garment to provide support to the new breast shape and also to speed up the recovery period.
